Overview
Some board book build problems are caused by a specific source file that does not convert cleanly. This article explains common file issues that can cause conversion failures and how to fix the file before rebuilding the book.
Applies to Web for meeting Admins.
Errors you may see
- “Book Build Failed”
- “Something went wrong while building your book.”
Symptoms
You may notice that:
- A specific document fails to upload.
- Fonts or characters appear incorrectly.
- Error uploading file to agenda.
- The book build fails after a particular file is added or updated.
Cause
The source file may contain formatting or file properties that prevent it from converting cleanly. Common causes include:
- Fonts that are not embedded or are not supported.
- Very large or high-resolution PowerPoint or PDF files.
- Embedded JavaScript in a PDF.
- Mixed page sizes or orientations within a single document.
Resolution
Fix the source file, then upload it again and rebuild the book.
- Check fonts. Use standard, embeddable fonts and embed them when exporting the file. For more guidance, see Recommended Fonts for use in OnBoard.
- Compress large files. If the file is a large PowerPoint or PDF, compress it before uploading. For more guidance, see Reducing and Compressing a large PowerPoint file.
- Remove PDF JavaScript. If the file is a PDF with embedded scripts, remove the JavaScript before uploading. For more guidance, see Removing JavaScript from PDFs.
- Use consistent page sizes. Keep the page size and orientation consistent within a single document. For more guidance, see Troubleshooting PowerPoint with various widths.
- Print the file to PDF and re-upload the file. See Metadata Correction - Print to PDF.
Additional notes
If the book still does not build after these steps, contact Support and include the file and meeting URL where the issue occurs. Support can examine the file and review the conversion problem.
