Deactivate or delete former board members?

Roger Nelsen

As board members rotate off the board, is it better to deactivate them or delete them?  Thanks, Roger

Deactivating or Deleting a member from your organization comes down to user preference.

If you believe the member will need access to your organization again in the future, we recommend deactivating them, so you can easily re-add them. If they won't need access to your organization again, and you don't want them listed in your Directory, you can delete them.

If deleted, you can re-invite the member to your organization if they ever need access in the future.

More details are below, but you can also reference our article on Removing Users From Your Organization.

Deletion: Will remove the member from your organization's Directory and all of their associated groups, meetings, resources, and actions. Any items the member contributed to OnBoard will remain. The member's Roles & Terms data will also remain.

Deactivation: The member will remain in your organization's Directory, but will not have access to your organization. While deactivated the member will not count towards your subscriber count. Quickly re-activate the member to return access to your organization and all content they previously had access to.
